This self-produced recording, created nearly 25 years ago, brings together the great 20th-century French composers Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, and Maurice Ravel with contemporary Japanese composers Somei Satoh and Toru Takemitsu. I have always been fascinated by the connections between these musical worlds—their extraordinary colors, luminous textures, and shared language of sound, space, and beauty having grown up with both Japanese and Western cultures.
